How we’re putting sustainability in the spotlight all year round

Earth Day

For us sustainability isn’t a buzzword—it’s a commitment that shapes everything we do. As we celebrate Earth Day, I am proud to share the meaningful actions we’re taking to reduce our carbon footprint, support ethical sourcing, and promote sustainable practices across our operations.

Spotlight on sustainability roadshows

I organise our Spotlight on Sustainability roadshows which run throughout the year. I share what we do to reduce our environmental impact with our customers and engage our teams. This Earth Day, we’re using the occasion to shine an even brighter light on these efforts and celebrate the positive change already underway.

From kitchen practices to procurement policies, we’re showing both our teams and our customers that small, thoughtful choices can add up to big results.

Ethical sourcing, better ingredients

We’re proud to be working toward a 100% RSPCA Assured milk target and already use RSPCA Assured eggs. This ensures high animal welfare standards and a more responsible supply chain.

We’ve also committed to transitioning our staff uniforms to those made with better cotton initiative-certified cotton, reducing the environmental impact of textile production.

Our Soppexcaa coffee comes from a women-led cooperative in Nicaragua. It’s not only organically grown but also roasted by Notes, a company that supports reforestation projects like the Roast-Tree Club.

Conscious cooking & sustainable menus

Our chefs are leading the charge when it comes to creative, low-impact cuisine:

We’re also finding new ways to reuse coffee grounds—whether it’s in recipes, as garden compost, or even giving them away to our customers to use at home.

Waste less, do more

From recycling cooking oil to reducing single-use packaging, we’re serious about waste reduction. Our Guardians of Grub initiative, led by our chef development team, supports food waste education and smarter kitchen practices.

We’re also encouraging the use of reusable cups, helping to cut down on disposable waste across our sites.

Training & innovation

Sustainability is a journey, and we’re empowering our teams through ongoing education. Our Knowledge Labs offer training on everything from sustainable sourcing to environmental stewardship.

Elisabth Ortiz-Kuefler, our inspirational ESG lead has developed engaging ESG campaigns for the whole year including:

Long-term goals & transparency

Our efforts are backed by a science-based approach. We’ve set a SBTi-approved Net Zero target for 2040 and are adopting a double materiality approach to financial and sustainability reporting—ensuring both environmental and financial risks are evaluated side-by-side.

We also recently earned a Silver EcoVadis rating, placing us in the top 15% of companies globally for sustainability practices.

Giving back to the planet

This summer, we’re organising an urban beach clean as part of our Earth Day Pledge—because giving back to our local environment is just as important as what we do inside our kitchens.

We’re also hosting quarterly ESG roundtables for our clients, diving into topics like sustainable diets and responsible sourcing. This gives us a great opportunity to collaborate, share insights, and continue pushing the sustainability agenda forward.

Our customers really enjoy coming to our ‘Spotlight on Sustainability’ roadshows, learning more about what we do, playing games, and taking part in competitions with fun prizes. I love meeting them, sharing our journey, and seeing their enthusiasm for making a difference.

Because ultimately, sustainability is a shared responsibility — and together, we can keep moving towards a brighter, greener future, one thoughtful choice at a time.
