bartlett mitchell recognised at 2013 ACE Sustains Awards
bartlett mitchell has been singled out for special praise at the 2013 ACE Sustain Awards, which were held in London this week. This was the inaugural year for the Association of Catering Excellence’s (ACE) new awards scheme and entry levels were high.
Bartlett mitchell came second in both award categories – the ACE Sustains People Award and the ACE Sustains Corporate Award.
Emma Finch, one of the company’s catering managers, won second place in the People Award for her environmentally focussed marketing initiative. Given the volume of coffee sleeves being used at her site, Emma developed a loyalty scheme to target the re-use of coffee sleeves with customers building up points towards a free coffee every time they re-used the sleeve. Emma’s simple but very effective initiative has reduced consumption of coffee sleeves by nearly 12,000 a year – that’s a big reduction in waste and a saving of over £700 in cost.
For the corporate award, the judges commended bartlett mitchell on the excellent strategy and tactical initiatives the company had introduced to reduce its impact on the environment and play a stronger role in society. From its initiatives on seasonal produce and local sourcing to its healthy eating education programme, and from waste reduction projects to team welfare, they gave bartlett mitchell a big ‘thumbs up’. One judge commented that they thought the company’s initiatives were very engaging and personable and it was obvious that the team lived and breathed CSR.
“It’s fantastic recognition for our company. We are a relatively small company but our initiatives and CSR programmes continue to gain recognition in industry awards. We’re working hard to do the right thing for the environment and play a positive part in society, and it’s wonderful for the company and the team to be praised for the work we’re doing”.
