Fourth year of Planet Mark accreditation.

Planet Mark

We are delighted to have been accredited by Planet Mark for our carbon reduction efforts for the fourth year in a row.

Certified by Planet Mark and based on the emissions at our headquarters, as well as support team travel and paper usage. We achieved a 47.5% carbon reduction based on turnover.

We achieved an 8.1% carbon reduction in 2022 compared to the previous year, with a total carbon footprint of 87.1 tCO₂e.

99% of BM’s emissions were Scope 3 from business travel, in which the company achieved its biggest year-on-year reduction, by one tCO2e. We intend to continue reducing this further this year, and this is a key focus area.

Compared to Planet Mark’s other certified organisations, BM was in the top 10% for carbon reduction.

As part of its commitment to the UN-backed ‘Race to Zero’, we are targeting a 5% reduction in our carbon footprint for this year.

Sally Grimes, BM’s quality standards manager, said: “It’s not always easy to keep reducing carbon emissions year-on-year, particularly compared to 2021 when our offices were closed for long periods, so we’re thrilled to not only have reduced our emissions last year but exceeded our annual reduction target.”

Joint managing director Antony Prentice added:“Being a member of Planet Mark and supporting us to measure carbon footprints has made us all the more aware of the wider, deeper picture of just how much we need to keep challenging every decision that has a carbon impact-we cant stop going forward and wouldn’t want to but by leaving a smaller footprint makes a real difference for us all.”

Planet Mark is a sustainability certification that measures and verifies companies’ carbon data and supports members to reduce their carbon emissions. This is BM’s fourth year of business carbon footprint reporting and Planet Mark certification. Across the wider business, BM’s recent sustainable initiatives have focused on sourcing local, high welfare and seasonal produce, and cutting down single-use packaging. At client sites, BM sells a range of reusable cups and packaging for customers.
