Nova Coffee & Bakery

Nova, located at 49 Farringdon Street in London, is a unique social enterprise founded by BM Caterers in partnership with Luminary Bakery and Hogan Lovells. This café is dedicated to empowering women who have faced homelessness, domestic abuse, violence, or sexual exploitation. Through hands-on training, meaningful employment, and a supportive environment, Nova provides these women with the opportunity to rebuild their lives and create a brighter future.

A café with a purpose

At Nova, we serve an inspiring menu of high-quality food and drinks in a welcoming environment. From our Fairtrade Perkee coffee sourced from the Soppexcca cooperative in Nicaragua to a selection of tasty breakfast options, cakes, and seasonal salads, every dish is crafted with care and community in mind.

Prepare for a flavour explosion! Our ‘Supernova Sandwich’ features Lake District Farmers pork sausage served in a muffin, paired with a perfectly cooked egg, rich brown sauce, and melted cheddar. It’s been described as “out of this world!” — a must-try for any flavour seeker.

Our mission: empowering women, building futures

Nova is more than just a café. It’s a social enterprise where hospitality graduates from Luminary Bakery’s programme can gain real-world experience and professional training. Working alongside BM’s experienced managers, these graduates are mentored and receive in-house barista skills training to enhance their employability.

The partnership between BM Caterers, Luminary Bakery, and Hogan Lovells provides an invaluable opportunity for women to transition from training into paid employment, while gaining confidence and independence. In addition to the café’s welcoming atmosphere, Nova also houses a training room where monthly coffee skills days are hosted for Luminary Bakery graduates, allowing them to refine their brewing techniques and achieve BM’s Perkee Foundation Intermediate Barista Qualification.

BM Caterers, alongside Hogan Lovells, has helped create this vibrant new space where social responsibility meets quality food. Hogan Lovells has provided the café space at its Atlantic House office, offering invaluable support in terms of infrastructure and ongoing management.

By partnering with Luminary Bakery, a social enterprise that uses baking as a tool for change, we are collectively providing women with the practical skills they need to thrive in both the professional world and beyond. The Luminary programme helps women build resilience and discover new career paths, with tailored training in everything from baking to employability skills.

A commitment to sustainability

At Nova, we are proud to serve Perkee Fairtrade coffee that supports the female-run Soppexcca cooperative in Jinotega, Nicaragua, funding initiatives focused on education, infrastructure, and sustainability. This commitment to sustainability runs through everything we do, from the ingredients we use to the way we engage with our community.
