Honey Butter Toast

Honey-Butter-Toast

This style of dessert has become hugely popular and why wouldn’t it? It’s sweet, crunchy and soft.

Chef Pete Redman has created a step-by-step recipe video. You can watch the video here

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Bread:

  2. Preheat your oven to 200°C (180°C fan) / Gas Mark 6.

  3. If using Japanese milk bread, cut it into thick slices, about 2.5 cm (1 inch) thick. Square off the edges if necessary to ensure even cooking.

  4. Make the Honey Butter:

  5. In a mixing bowl, combine the softened butter, honey, light brown sugar, and a pinch of salt.

  6. Mix vigorously until smooth and well combined.

  7. Butter the Bread:

  8. Spread the honey butter mixture generously and evenly over all sides of each slice of bread. Ensure every bit is well-coated for maximum flavour.

  9. Bake the Toast:

  10. Place the buttered bread slices on a baking tray, lined with parchment paper.

  11. Bake in the preheated oven for 8 minutes.

  12. Flip each slice over and bake for an additional 5 minutes. This helps achieve a crispy, caramelized crust on both sides.

  13. Cool and Serve:

  14. Once baked, remove the slices from the oven and let them cool slightly. This allows the honey butter and sugar mixture to set and harden, creating a lovely crunch.

  15. Optionally, serve with sliced bananas, a sprinkle of ground cinnamon, figs, or a scoop of ice cream.
